NFMC Competitions & Awards available to Junior Associate Members  (2016-2017)

Stillman-Kelley / Thelma Byrum Awards

  • Piano, Violin, Cello, Flute
  • Competition at State Level, winner moves on to National
  • National Level Awards: 1st place $1,000; 2nd place $500; 3rd place $300
  • Five Regional Awards: $200 each
  • Deadline for Application: February 1st

NFMC Mary Alice Cox Award

  • Double Bass, Cello
  • Three Awards: 1st place $1,800; 2nd place $1,300; 3rd place $800
  • Deadline for Application: March 1st

NFMC Wendall Irish Viola Award

  • Competition at State Level, winner moves on to National Level
  • Two Awards at National Level: 1st place $1,000; 2nd place $750
  • Five Regional Awards: $250 each
  • Deadline for Application to State Chairman: February 1st

Marilyn Caldwell Piano Solo Award

  • High School Grades 10, 11, 12
  • Two Awards: 1st place $800; 2nd place $300
  • Deadline for Application: March 1st

Claire Ulrich Whitehurst Piano Solo Award

  • High School Grades 10, 11, 12
  • Award: $500
  • Deadline: March 1st – even numbered years

Junior Composers

  • All ages, up to 18
  • Awards: Several monetary awards, amount dependent on level
  • State, Regional, National levels and awards
  • Deadline for State: January 15th

The NFMC also offers scholarships to over a dozen summer music centers for students who wish to attend a summer music camp, an enriching and enjoyable educational experience. Visit the NFMC website (http://www.nfmc-music.org/) under the NAVIGATION tab, scroll to Competitions and Awards, scroll over and click on Sumer Music Centers for more information.

*The NFMC also offers awards to the mentally and/or physically disabled.

*Junior Associate Federated musicians may also apply for the Angie Greer Music in Poetry contest, the National Music Week Essay contest, and the Junior Composers contest.

*Applicant must be a native citizen of the United States of America or must have received naturalization papers (either the applicant or parents).

*In the event of financial shortfalls, advertised award amounts may be adjusted. Applicants would be notified of the award change.
